The Allman Brothers Band - At Fillmore East

This is definitely one for guitarists. It's a great live album, but only if you really like slide guitar solos that go on for days. I do, and recently after years of boredom with the electric guitar I've got started playing electric again, and subsequently enjoy listening to great lead guitar playing and there's a lot of it on this album. The Allman Brothers really worked as a live band, their original songs and takes on old blues numbers extended into sprawling jams sometimes lasting over 20 minutes long.

For me, the standout track is album closer "Whipping Post", a blistering 23 minute long blues tune played in 11/4 time, unfortunately the version on the album doesn't appear to be on youtube, but here's "In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed" to give you a flavour of the kind of thing we're talking about here...
